About The Young Vote

In our society, the identity of young people is viewed in relation to that of adults. As such, we are told, either implicitly or explicitly, that we are less sophisticated, less mature, less developed, less willing, and less able versions of adults. Further, young people have been divided along the lines of race, religion, gender, class, education, style, sexual orientation, and affiliation. These conceptions legitimize societal structures that quiet us, weaken us, make us feel inferior, remove our inherent freedoms to make choices about our lives and the direction of society, and dismiss our thoughts, feelings, and desires.
The Young Vote is a movement created, organized, and conducted by American Youth. It is a movement that allows us to be politically, socially, linguistically, holistically informed. It is a movement that sparks action and provides us with the tools for reclaiming our fair share of society. It is a social networking site. It is a means by which we re-identify ourselves within a new framework, our own framework. It is the means by which we unite and remind the world that our present or potential vote, The Young Vote, is a force to be reckoned with.

Policy

The Young Vote functions as both a means by which dialogue is created and a means by which action is organized. As such, The Young Vote fosters an atmosphere in which young people are acknowledged as sophisticated, mature, developed, willing, and able human beings. Consequently, comments which reflect the tired old societal structures which inform young people otherwise, such as personal attacks, belittling, and hate speech directed at a group or individual will be removed. This is because the social function of such comments is to dismiss the opinions of the brave and vocal rather than reflect upon their ideas and form a dialogue.
